    A journey, a ride

    A neshama must embark

    Singled out on a mission

    Each to make its mark

    Clothed in a body

    Outfitted so precise

    To divinely perfect

    And earn its paradise

    Cast into its surroundings

Where it will form and mold

    Its blueprint predesigned

    Ready to unfold

    It doesn’t choose its voyage

    It doesn’t choose its stay

    It doesn’t choose its destiny

    Or anything along the way

    Some have it smooth

    While others have it rough

Some seem to have it all

    While others have it tough

    Some can immerse in luxuries

    Enjoying life’s pleasures

While some are carrying heavy burdens

    Filled with stress and pressure

    It seems so unfair

    To our naked eye

    We have many a questions

How can it be? Just why?

Don’t you ever dare to dream

    The reasoning behind

    Don’t you ever wish

    You weren’t so blind

    If the world were transparent

    And things would be clear

It would make our sailing swifter

    And minimize despair

    It’s all for our benefit

    That’s what they say

But it’s so difficult to accept

    When life seems so grey

It’s like walking in a fog

    So thick and dense

    How do you get out

    The panic is immense

It’s like being tossed into an ocean

Where the waves pull you down

    You struggle to swim

    Afraid that you may drown

    Absolutely don’t give up

Keep your eyes on the beach

    Do the strokes mechanically

The shore you must now reach

You finally get to the shore

And try to make sense of it all

Suddenly you’re hit by a wave

    So overwhelmingly tall

    You’re thrown back in again

    Plundering the tide

    Keeping your head above water

    Will this storm ever subside?

How can you say it in words

    How can you explain

    The turmoil, the anguish

    The helplessness and pain

    The worry and fear

    At worst the unknown

    The anxiety and panic

    So frightening and alone

    Bombarded with nisyonos

    An avalanche so it seems

    Each following in succession

With almost no time in between

    Challenges oh challenges!

They’re meant to help us receive

    Rewards in olam haemes

    An opportunity to achieve

    But how is it possible

    I contemplate

One must be made out of iron

    To endure its fate

    We’re only flesh and bones

    So vulnerable and frail

How can we hold on tight

And be sure not to fail

    How can we stand proud

    And rise above

    Accept our nisyonos

    With passion and love

    One must have this engrained

    In it’s very core

    Not to get sidetracked

    Why we are tested for

    To correct the wrong?

    A previous incarnation?

    A test of love?

    To receive reward and admiration?

    Our creator Hashem

Has a master plan in place

    He tests his most beloved

    For loyalty and faith

This world is only a hallway

To the world that will be forever

    What we accomplish now

    We will most definitely treasure

    When the going seems grim

    And your heart feels tight

    Think of the truth

    It will lighten your plight

    Hashem lovingly accompanies

    Those he singles out

    The beloved ones he trusts

The ones he has no doubt

He wants to prove to the angels

    How his precious children behave

How they accept with love, and turn to him

It’s those heartfelt tefillos he craves

Did u see my princes and princesses?

Did you see how they keep singing my praise?

They turn to me, like a son to a father

My name and honor they raise

    The malachim are in awe

    They stop to criticize

    Says Hashem, did you see?

    My children deserve a prize!

It’s time for them to be redeemed

It’s time to heal their sorrow

    The world has reached perfection

    Moshiach will come tomorrow!

They say that Robert Frost considered the purpose of poetry to be to get the reader to say, “Yes! I know what you mean!”

Thank you for not only putting my feelings into words, but for also adding an encouraging message for those times when circumstances alone are the farthest thing from encouraging.

Thank you Brocha for your beautiful response! It’s so nice to hear encouraging comments, especially from an amazing fellow poet as yourself!  I was actually a bit hesitant to share this poem, but then I thought that it may be a source of inspiration for anyone going through challenges.  I’m moved by your comment that it put your feelings into words.

Thank you so much happywriter! It’s nice to hear back that you were able to feel the rawness of the pain through the words of my poem.  I wonder if perhaps everyone can relate to an avalanche of challenges at one point in life or another? Hmmm… is there anyone on this forum that has not experienced that?

    My pleasure, Chaya!!

I also agree at how beautiful it is to read these warm responses! ?

It’s reminding me of Chazkeinu’s motto of “Strengthening ourselves by strengthening each other!”
