This is a poem I wrote in high school. I’m curious to hear what you think 😉

When teachers drone about the Civil War

When siblings whine about the supper

When friends talk about their camp

    I space out.

When I have to write a factual essay

When I have to babysit in a quiet house

When I have to talk to a random girl

    I space out.

When it’s past my bedtime and I’m in the shower

When it’s the middle of the night in a long car ride

When it’s the morning on the school bus

    I space out.

When teachers share pearls of wisdom

When siblings tell me funny stories

When friends talk about my camp

    I space in.

When I sit down to write a descriptive essay

When I am hired to babysit for adorable kids

When I’m on the phone with my best friend

    I space in.

When it’s past my bedtime and I’m reading a novel

When it’s the middle of the night in camp

When it’s the morning of a school trip

    I space in.

    Space out

    and time lapses.

    Space in

    and time lingers.

    To skip a moment

    I space out.

    To live a moment

    I space in.

Lol – great poem! Really relatable to any high school girl.

Did you write this poem while you were spacing out of the Civil War lesson? 😉 Just curious

That ending; WOW! So profound, so aware (despite what the title alludes;) I love the structure, the wording, the journey. I think we all can relate. Excellent job!

Anagrammer, I love love it!! Your poem is very descriptive and I love you end with a period at the appropriate place and then start the next phrase. I struggle to figure out when to put the period and when to start again. I’d love to hear you tips if you have 🙂

Hi, PassionforWriting. I actually responded to this already, but it looks like it disappeared, so I’m reposting in case you didn’t see it. I decided to use periods in my poem. That was my use of my poetic license. I don’t think the rules for periods in poems are set in stone; it’s sort of just the poet’s call.

Strange. I responded a few days ago, and it seems some of the posts got lost….

Thank you for the feedback! And yes, Sury, that was probably when I wrote it, though I don’t recall 😉
