Hey guys, I posted a poem for Elul a week or so ago. This is what I felt after Rosh Hashana and wrote it all down. It may be a little hard to follow my thoughts are always so scattered. I did say that this year I was going to post more of my poetry though so any critique is accepted (it can’t be any worse than my own though that’s the caveat:) I hope you all had an incredible yuntiff! Enjoy!

    New Beginnings

The sound of a million shattered pieces

That was the anthem of this past year.

    But we’re still here.

    Look at Your dazzling nation

How they prostrate to the floor.

    How they stand before You.

When Your words the rest of the world would abhor.

They are Your chosen people, no one else can come close.

    They are Your beloved people.

They are Your kingdom who want You most.

They are the sound of a million outcries.

    The broken belies the beauty.

    The roar belies redemption,

    Our refusal to quietly abide.

To other nations the sound is crescendos of indifference.

To us it is a symbol of restitution,

    The reckoning of Your deliverance.

This past year was shattered into a million pieces.

We cut ourselves on the sharp edges.

    But we bandaged our bruises,

    We gave no excuses.

    You collected those silver slivers,

    Until all the shattered pieces

    coalesced into a mirror

A mirror that  stretched across the sky.

And You begged us to look up.

    You stirred us from inside.

Until finally the day came where we did look up

    And we saw Your reflection.

It shined brighter than any star.

    It gave us direction.

    And through masked lips

    And flexed fingertips,

    We felt the shift,

The world moving on its axis.

    We felt mercy.

    In a world of unworthiness,

We felt Your mercy, it became ubiquitous.

When we gave You Your crown,

We saw Your reflection inside of us

    The world turned upside down.

This year will become a nechama,

It will be a year where we are better.

A year of niissim, neflaos, and yeshuous.

Hearken the shofar’s battle cry my beloved,”

    He insists, “For it is

The sound of a million pieces coming together”.
