Good and Gone

    Lovely, little friend

    Sweet, enlightened hon

Sometimes you’ve got to let em be

    Gone gone gone

    I see you trying hard

    Squinting for the sun

But sometimes they just want to be

    Gone gone gone

    You chase after they fly

    You turn after they run

You reach and see it has been going

    Gone gone gone

    No promise for the morrow

    Can’t say you’ll be done

If they just carry on to be

    Gone gone gone

You learn you got no handle

You see there is just One

That deems it is a sweet thing they be

    Gone gone gone

This is open for interpretation, sweet, enlightened hon. If you draw a blank, I’ll be gone.

I love that this can be interpreted in so many different ways!

    Excellent rhyme and rhythm:)

Mali, you got a thing with words. So much so, your poem evoked a certain image about the woes of friendship/nasty girls:

    Proceed with Caution

She tattled and giggled and whispered to friends
who hovered close like she was an exotic blend-
you couldn’t understand unless you took a sip
and became a victim ensnared by this witch
    Proceed with caution.

Thanks HappiWriter. And FF- talk about a way with words.

who hovered close like she was an exotic blend” Laughing. Do you think these things happen past high school?

    Wow, wow, Mali.

Talk about interpreting it… I read it once, and thought of one thing, and then a second time and something different came to mind. This is fantastic!

Wow! What an amazing, iridescent poem–can be interpreted in so, so many different ways. I found myself thinking first about the banal (clutter!), but as the poem progressed, I thought about raising children, and then about just…every aspect of life! Thank you for this sweet treat today!

I first interpreted it as when you want something but He says ‘no’… And you can’t accept that if He doesn’t will it, it won’t be.

But now, suddenly, a dozen other thoughts came into my mind…

Wow. This is one of those poems that should be famous. Like when you google “Good and Gone”, thousands of results should come up with your name all over them – academic papers, interpretations, commentary, etc! I’m awed.

You rock. Blushing. Ok, also slipping a self-satisfied smile.

Thank you Novice, Riva, Ana! This was posted a long time ago, funny how it was reawakened now:)I think I was referring to a loss of drives and goals and passions and sense of purpose…When they just aren’t there sometimes.

I thought of a mother saying bye to her child leaving home…beautiful!
