One more thing I wanted to add: when I do any work for a non-profit organization, I like to give my ma’aser back to the organization. It’s a way of having some part in their wonderful work and also it makes the rates conversation a little more comfortable because I can say, “I charge $X an hour and I’d like to give my ma’aser back to your organization so you can just take 10% off the top.”
